Apply one drop of honey to each eye while lying down straight on the bed. Let it stay for 3 minutes in the eyes and later wash it off with plain water. Apply a drop of castor oil in each eye, this also works as one of the effective home remedies for eye strain. Take half teaspoon of clarified butter, if castor oil is not available, and rub with both hands to melt it down and apply it in the eyes. This also provides soothing effects and relieves eye strain.

Warm compresses also relieve the eyes and cure eye strain very effectively. Simply soak a towel in warm water, ensure that water is not too warm. Wring the towel and cover the face with it while facing the sky. Relax for few minutes and in the mean time open and close the eyes for few seconds at regular intervals. Another one of the most effective home remedies for eye strain is provided by the mixture of lemon juice and water. Take a big bowl full of water and add 10 drops of fresh lemon juice to it. Mix them well and dip the face in the bowl, open and close the eyes for few second at regular intervals and dip face four five times in the water. It is one of the excellent home remedies for eye strain and also works well for over all eye care.

Make mixture by mixing 4 grams of alum powder with 30 grams of rose water. Store this mixture in a glass bottle and use it as an eye drop every night. Storing a mixture prepared by using one part of lime juice and one part of rose water and using it as an eye drops also provides beneficial results to cure the problem of eye strain. Take a teaspoon of fennel seeds and mix them with a cup of boiling water. Allow this mixture to stand for few minutes and later strain and let it cool down. Use this mixture as an eye drop few times in a day. The properties of fennel seeds reduce inflammation, redness and calm the strained muscles of the eyes to provide immediate relief. It is another one of the very effective home remedies for eye strain.

During work palming is the best exercise to relieve the strained eyes. Sit straight with legs folded and rub both the palms together and cup the eyes. Place the heel of palm on the cheek bone and cover the eyes. According to Yoga if one can imagine dark black space in this position it releases stress and relax the eyes and mind. Imagining a lush green place also casts soothing effects and reenergizes the tired eyes. This is one of the effective home remedies for eye strain.

Take a blinking break while watching TV, working on a computer, reading or writing. Blink the eyes regularly for one to two minutes to protect evaporation of moisture in the eyes, this prevents strain and relax the eyes. Eat vitamin A rich diet and carrots, mangoes, spinach and fresh fruits of all types are very supportive for maintaining proper and sound health of the eyes. Keep eyes clean by washing two three times in a day, maintain proper light at working place and use glasses to protect eyes from bright lights and too much exposure to the sun.
