Home Remedies for Leg Cramps, Natural Remedy



Sudden pain in the leg due to twisting of muscles can wake a person up from sound sleep or can stop him from doing any kind of activity for one to few minutes, home remedies for leg cramps are easy and useful ways to prevent cramps effectively and also to cure the root cause of the problem. Cramps can occur at any part of the body, it is sudden contraction of muscles but it mostly and commonly affects legs hence it is popularly called as leg cramps. The most commonly contracting muscles causing leg cramps are calf, hamstrings and quadriceps. The exact cause or causes of leg cramps are unknown but it is accompanied by various medical conditions and disorders. Some of the conditions associated with leg cramps are flatfeet, peripheral artery disease, spinal stenosis, Addison's disease, cirrhosis, chronic kidney failure, diabetes type 1 and type 2, hyperthyroidism and Parkinson's disease. Certain medicines can also cause frequent leg cramps like blood pressure medicines, diuretics and birth control pills, amongst other causes of the problem, muscle fatigue, obesity, weak muscles, poor blood circulation, anemia, imbalance of calcium, magnesium and potassium in the blood, electrolytic imbalances, pregnancy, water retention, dehydration and diarrhea are commonly found causes of the problem.

Sudden pain in the leg muscles which is sharp and lasts for a minute to few minutes is a symptom of leg cramp. The pain resembles that of muscle twist and is restricted to a small area. The method of preparing red raspberry tea is same like that of chamomile tea just add one teaspoon of red raspberry leaves in a cup of water and simmer the mixture for few minutes before straining and drinking it when warm.
Take one tablespoon of calcium lactate, one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Mix these together and consume the mixture once in a day. This is one of the most effective home remedies for leg cramps which can provide relief from the pain and problem caused due to any of the known reasons.

Massaging legs with essential oils particularly calf and thigh regions also works as one of the effective home remedies for leg cramps. Essential oils like lavender oil, rosemary oil and eucalyptus are very useful for providing relief from the problems of cramps. After massaging the legs with essential oil wrapping them with hot towel for few minutes is excellent way of treating the problem. Few simple home remedies for leg cramps are provided by banana and honey. Consuming two fruits of banana supplement the body with calcium and necessary minerals to prevent the cramps. Simply consuming two to three teaspoons of honey everyday is another very simple remedy for leg cramps.
Simply wrapping legs with hot towel for few minutes everyday before going to bed improves blood circulation in the legs and relieves calf and thigh muscles. This prevent leg cramps in the night and allows a person to sleep well without waking up due to sudden and sharp pain. This is one of the easiest and simple home remedies for leg cramps.

People suffering with leg cramps can perform few simple and easy exercises to prevent the pain. Stand straight on the floor and while staying on heels try to lift the toes upwards. This stretches calf and thigh muscles and strengthens them to prevent leg cramps. While going to sleep lie straight on the back facing towards the roof and stretch the legs as far as one can. Stay in this position for half an hour. This will prevent pain attacks due to cramps in the night and will gradually cure the problem. These exercises are also recommended as effective home remedies for leg cramps.

Balanced and nourishing diet is more than useful for treating the problem. Fruits and green vegetables shall be consumed in sufficient quantities in the diet and also fruit juices and vegetable juices shall be consumed to maintain proper mineral balance in the blood. Keep body hydrated by drinking plenty of water during the day, avoid too much standing or walking at one stretch, take a rest after a period to provide relief from the strain.
