Home Remedies for Head Lice, Natural Remedy



Lice can be very stubborn and tough to remove completely after infestation, it is quite common problem amongst children between the age of 2 to 12 but these creatures can affect anyone at any age, home remedies for head lice are potent treatments to get rid of these irritating creatures completely. Head lice are tiny creatures equal to the size of sesame seed and are wingless. These do not cause any infection and are harmless and survive on very small amount of blood drawn from the scalp of human beings. But their bite can cause itching and due to regular itching person can get irritation on the scalp at some places. They breed very quickly and lay many eggs each time which quite strongly remain attached to the shaft of hair and do not fall off by washing or combing. Within 1-2 weeks eggs get hatched and new lot of lice comes up. Home remedies for head lice provide wholesome treatment by removing lice and by checking their breeding.

Excessive scratching of head by an adult or child is first symptom of possible presence of lice in the head. On close examination one can see them crawling or attached to hair or scalp. Combing with a fine comb specially designed for cleaning lice can draw them out of hair. Presence of yellow or tan colored tiny and hard crystals attached to the shaft of the hair close to scalp are called nits or eggs of lice which are symptoms of lice in the head. Presence of red marks or rashes on the scalp can occur due to regular scratching, which happens due to movement of lice on the scalp or when it bites into scalp to suck blood, is another symptom of lice in the head. Girls mostly get affected than boys due to long hairs. The nits are many in number and cannot be removed by washing or combing. Single lice can give many eggs and within one to two weeks can produce many lice, this is the reason why they are hard to get rid of without proper treatment.

Home remedies for head lice provide effective measures to get rid of these unwanted and embarrassing creatures. Improper hygiene or coming in contact with a person carrying lice are the main causes of head lice. Lice can spread from one person to another through combs, towels, bed sheets, clothing and pillow covers. When hair of affected person touches another person's hairs lice can move and affect another person quite easily. Sweat, oil and unclean scalp can also produce lice. Lice can spread from one member of the family to others very quickly and hence their treatment is necessary at the first instance. Home remedies for head lice provide effective and safe measure to remove lice completely.

Take olive oil and apply on the scalp and hair well, let it stay overnight. In the morning comb hair with thin lice comb, all the lice will come out with combing easily. This is one of the easiest home remedies for head lice. One should repeat this remedy after 7 days till not a single lice remains for effective cure.

Squeeze two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, take few cloves of garlic and grind them to make a paste. Add lemon juice to the paste and apply on the scalp. Let this paste stay on the scalp for 30 minutes and later wash it off with cold water. Comb hair with a thin comb. This is one of the effective home remedies for head lice.



Take few garlic cloves and grind them well, add three tablespoons of vinegar and two tablespoons of lemon juice to make a paste. Apply this paste on the scalp and let it stay for 2 hours and later wash it off with plain water. Repeat this remedy once every week for effectively curing the problem. This is one of the most effective home remedies for head lice.

Take sufficient quantity of Neem leaves, grind some of the leaves to form a paste sufficient enough to apply all over the scalp. Once the paste has been applied on the scalp, mix some leaves in a bowl of water and boil them for few minutes. Let the water stay and cool down. Strain the mixture and after 20 minutes wash off the Neem leaves paste off the scalp with this water. This is one of the oldest home remedies for head lice which can be effective even in preventing re-infestation for short duration.

Take basil leaves and also few margosa leaves, grind them together to form a paste. Apply this paste on the scalp and let it stay for half an hour. Later wash it off with plain water and comb the hair with lice comb to remove all the lice in the head. Repeat this remedy two three times in a week, it is one of the trusted home remedies for head lice.

Tea tree oil is also very useful in removing head lice. Add few drops of tea tree oil in the shampoo and wash hair regularly for few days. Comb wet hair after every use and this remedy will remove all the lice easily. It is one of the simplest home remedies for head lice.

Application of mayonnaise can also kill the lice, apply mayonnaise to the scalp and let it stay for two hours, comb hair with lice comb, this remedy can remove all the lice as well as nits. Mix few drops of lemon juice with two teaspoons of butter and apply on the scalp, let it stay for 20 minutes and wash it off with plain water. It also kills lice and removes them off easily. Both of these are useful home remedies for head lice.

Stay away from person having lice, do not share clothes, bed sheets, pillows and combs with any one and stay away from hairs of the person having lice. Wash hairs regularly with shampoo and comb with thin comb. If any member of the family is having lice wash all the clothes and comb, hair brushes used by the person with hot water first and later with detergent and water to prevent lice from spreading and their re-infestation.
