Home Remedies for Eye Strain, Natural Remedy

Eye strain is a simple issue which can cause far reaching and chronic problems if ignored, home remedies for eye strain are methods to relax and reenergize the eyes to prevent ill-effects of straining. Eyes strain is basically straining of eye muscle. Eyes comprise of six extra-ocular muscles and ciliary body around lens. Any one of the muscles tired or exhausted due to constant focusing or lack of relaxation can cause eye strain. The ciliary body around the lens with the help of muscles accommodate the shape of the lens, that is why when used constantly or focused on something for a longer period eyes get tired or strained. Strained eyes show clear symptoms and ignoring these symptoms can be very harmful and may cast serious ill-effects. Home remedies for eye strain are simple and easy methods to relax and soothe the eyes to prevent damage to eye's health.

Excessive viewing of TV, extended duration on computer, focusing without blinking for longer periods, reading or working in insufficient light, reading or working in bright light, trying to see in glare, lack of sleep, stress, poor quality of glasses, use of contact lenses and bad viewing angle are commonly found causes of eye strain. There are some personal factors which can also cause this problem such as alcohol, fatigue, poor posture and poor diet, these factors also cause tiredness in the eyes quite frequently. Home remedies for eye strain are excellent ways to relax and reenergize the eyes to prevent straining. Strained eyes show many different types of symptoms which can be confusing at times as people most of the time are unable to relate the symptoms with the actual problem, symptoms appear like those of any serious condition rather than of eye strain.

Dizziness, lightheadedness, motion sickness, car sickness, blurred vision, burning in the eyes, tearing when eyes are closed for a while, spasms around the eyes, double vision or watery eyes are few commonly found symptoms related to straining of eyes. Heaviness in the forehead or mild headache along with tired eyes is also its symptom. Lack of concentration, reduced side vision and watery eyes while focusing on something, are other symptoms which are associated with this problem. Redness in the eyes can be caused by many other reasons and is also a symptom of eye strain. Home remedies for eye strain can relieve all the symptoms in a short time without causing any side effects.

Apply one drop of honey to each eye while lying down straight on the bed. Let it stay for 3 minutes in the eyes and later wash it off with plain water. The properties of honey will promote tear secretion which will moisten the eye surface and will calm the symptoms of eye strain in a short time. Honey provides one of the easy to use home remedies for eye strain.

Apply a drop of castor oil in each eye, this also works as one of the effective home remedies for eye strain. Take half teaspoon of clarified butter, if castor oil is not available, and rub with both hands to melt it down and apply it in the eyes. This also provides soothing effects and relieves eye strain.

Warm compresses also relieve the eyes and cure eye strain very effectively. Simply soak a towel in warm water, ensure that water is not too warm. Wring the towel and cover the face with it while facing the sky. Relax for few minutes and in the mean time open and close the eyes for few seconds at regular intervals. This is one of the simplest home remedies for eye strain.

Another one of the most effective home remedies for eye strain is provided by the mixture of lemon juice and water. Take a big bowl full of water and add 10 drops of fresh lemon juice to it. Mix them well and dip the face in the bowl, open and close the eyes for few second at regular intervals and dip face four five times in the water.
