Home Remedies for Dry Scalp, Natural Remedy

Home remedies for dry scalp are most effective treatment a person can get. Mostly dry scalp is confused with the condition of dry hair or too much dandruff. However dry hair can occur due to dry scalp but dry scalp is caused due to lesser production of oil by sebaceous glands present in hair follicles and too much dandruff can occur in oily skin too. The lesser oil production causes flaky and crumbling upper layer of scalp which is referred as dry scalp. This is a painful condition and causes irritating itching, if allowed to stay longer it can also lead to baldness by increasing loss of hairs and poor hair health. Environmental factors, diet, stress levels, use of hair care products and medical conditions all can cause dry scalp. Dry air, air-conditioned environment, winter season, hard water, chemicals present in shampoo, hair dying, hair perm, too much use of dryer, lack of nutrients in the body, too much caffeine intake, fat loss, side effects of medicines like diuretics and cholesterol controlling medicines, medical conditions causing poor blood flow and over stress are few commonly found causes of dry scalp. Skin conditions like seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema are also commonly found causes of dry scalp. Home remedies for dry scalp can treat all of these causes very effectively to protect hairs and prevent irritating symptoms of the problem.

Excessive dandruff is primary symptom of dry scalp however it is not a clear symptom as dandruff can occur in oily scalp too, dandruff can also appear due to minor reasons like change of shampoo, emotional stress, hair dying etc hence shall be cross checked before treating it as symptom of dry scalp. Excessive itching is another symptom of dry scalp, this can be temporary or may continue for longer period and may change its intensity temporarily after shampooing or oiling. Redness of scalp and formation of spots and crusts on the scalp are other symptoms of dry scalp. Dry scalp symptoms also include excessive hair loss, this occurs due to loose grip of scalp over hair due to crumbling upper layer of scalp. Combing and washing increases the number of hair loss and person notice too many hairs on pillows or on towel after wiping head. Home remedies for dry scalp can relieve these symptoms by effectively treating root cause of the problem naturally and safely without any side effects. Hair treatment usually takes longer time, any other method of treatment can cast side effects on health or on skin, but with home remedies for dry scalp there are no chances of any side effects if proper precautions are taken.

Hot oils provide few effective home remedies for dry scalp. Heat oil and apply with fingertips on the scalp. One can also use cotton ball for proper application as oil should reach the scalp for positive effects. Allow oil to stay for sufficient duration at least half an hour and wash it later with mild or preferably herbal shampoo. Olive oil, jojoba oil and coconut oil are very good for this remedy. This is one of the oldest home remedies for dry scalp and healthy hair. Apply any of the above mentioned oils and cover the head with a towel soaked in warm water. This allows oil to reach the scalp and form a layer to make up for lack of oil secretion by sebaceous glands of the scalp. This is one of the easiest and effective home remedies for dry scalp.

Fresh aloe vera gel is also used as home remedies for dry scalp. Cut a leaf of aloe vera and scrape off the gel. Apply this gel with fingertips to the scalp. Let it stay for at least half an hour to cure the problem of dry scalp. Aloe vera is extremely beneficial for curing infections of the skin and promotes good skin health, it can also very effectively stimulate oil secretion by the glands if reduced due to skin problems. Aloe vera gel application is one of the curative home remedies for dry scalp.

Chemicals and environmental factors also cause dry scalp. Add peppermint oil to the shampoo before washing the hair. One should add peppermint oil in ratio of 3 drops of oil in one teaspoon of shampoo. Massage the scalp with this mixture let it stay for 15 minutes and wash it off later. This is another one of the easiest home remedies for dry scalp.

Apple cider vinegar also provides an effective treatment for the problem of dry scalp. Use apple cider vinegar as last rinse. After washing the hairs with shampoo rinse them thoroughly with plain water. Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and with a glass of water, if one needs more mixture to rinse scalp properly add up in the same ratio, rinse hair and scalp with this mixture and let it stay for 15 minutes before wiping hair with towel. This is one of the most effective home remedies for dry scalp which can treat the problem caused by environmental pollutants, hard water or poor skin health.

Application of yoghurt before washing the hair with shampoo is another one of the oldest home remedies for dry scalp and sound hair growth. Massage the scalp well with yoghurt and let it stay for half an hour, if one can cover the head with a warm towel then it works even better, wash it off later with a mild shampoo.

Honey, milk and olive oil also provide one of the most effective home remedies for dry scalp. Mix two teaspoons of honey in half cup of milk and add half cup of virgin olive oil to the mixture. Massage the scalp well with this mixture, cover head with towel or a plastic cap and let it stay overnight or for few hours. Later wash it off with mild shampoo. This is one of those home remedies for dry scalp which can cure the problem caused by any reason.

Consumption of dried oregano, halibuts, broccoli, strawberry and flax seeds is very supportive for curing dry scalp. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and acidic foods to increase the effects of the treatment.
